Dear colleagues,

the first announcement of this symposion got many positive reactions. This letter goes to everyone who replied and to some of our regular participants. Of course, it is still possible to decide to attend and to encourage colleagues to consider their paticipation.

The 10th Austrian Symposion on the History of Mathematics will take place in the week from Sunday, May 30 (arrival in the afternoon) till Saturday, June 5, 2010 (departure after breakfast). Note that Thursday, June 3 is a catholic holiday ('Corpus Christi').

Miesenbach and the hotel Börsenhof which were much appreciated on the previous occasions will welcome us again, already for the fourth time. Miesenbach is a small and idyllic village between the valley of the Piesting (train station) and Puchberg am Schneeberg (another train station), in a valley between the mountains Hohe Wand and Oehler. Nearby, there are many possibilities for hiking, ranging from an easy walk to a nearby waterfall to alpin climbing, and for sightseeing, as well. For instance, Miesenbach offers a museum dedicated to Friedrich Gauermann (an Austrian painter of the 'Biedermeier' era), or you can visit the Mariahilferberg, a place of pilgrimage near Gutenstein, the Raimund memorial (Raimund was an popular Austrian playwright) and many other places.

The quoted price includes all meals from Sunday evening to Saturday morning (buffet breakfast, menu with choices for lunch and dinner), the transfer from and to the railway station, an excursion (probably with the rack-railway onto the Schneeberg), and the proceedings volume of the meeting.

All rooms have shower, toilet, telephone and SAT-TV, the category A rooms are located in a new building, they are more spacious and avail of a balcony. You may choose the category of the room on a first come – first served basis.

Please register and let me know your intentions re the room till MID-APRIL.

As usual, a proceedings volume of the meeting will be published, containing short versions (5 pages approx) of the talks. Please send me the title of your talk till MID-APRIL, and the short version (in TEX, or MS Word, or – preferable – as pdf-file) till END OF APRIL!!

How to get there:

To go by public transportion is possible but complicated.

There will be some cars coming from Vienna – thus there might be a possibility of joining a ride.

If you have books to sell or to exchange, or any other material of interest to historians of mathematics, please bring it with you.

Information on the hotel and the village may also be found on the internet <>. However, please don't contact the hotel prior to Saturday, May 29. I'll arrange for the rooms, your other desires (diet, …), and deal with any other question.

I am looking forward to welcoming you in Miesenbach next May,
Christa (Binder)
