The meeting will be opened by introductory remarks of Prof.
Hermann Hunger, University of Vienna, Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences,
chairman of the commission for the history of sciences, mathematics and medicine
and Theodor Kanitzer, president of the Austrian Polish Society – ÖPG
The following lectures (30 min. each) will be given:
Copernicus, Copernican Studies and the Science Wars
Prof. Michal Kokowski,
Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, PAU Cracow
Inscription and fact. Forming knowledge in earth science based on mineralogical
books and travels in the eastern Habsburg regions (18th century)
Prof. Marianne Klemun, University Vienna, Member of the commission for the history of sciences,
mathematics and medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
Chemical education in Poland: how it is, and how it was.
Prof. Roman Edmund Sioda,
University of Podlasie, Institute of Chemistry
Prof. Adolf Mikula, University of Vienna, Institute of Chemistry will compare
Chemical Education in Austria with the situation in Poland as discussed by Prof.
Sioda
The meeting will take place at the Scientific Centre of the Polish Academy of
Sciences in Vienna. Besides the four lectures given there, the program of the
3rd International Conference of the European Society for the History of Science
to be held in Vienna in September 2008 will be discussed. Prof. Kokowski, who
was one of the main organizers of the 2nd International Conference of ESHS in
Cracow, will show what can be learned from his experiences for the Conference in
Vienna, which will be chaired by Prof. Hunger.
